We love hosting Camp Gottastitch – It is a time of laughter, community, learning, and just plain silliness. We plan for it all year long and are excited each year to reconnect with you. We start planning and preparing for each camp, usually before the current year camp has even happened. We invest in it because we want it to be ‘the best’.
So, this year it is with a heavy heart and sadness that we have decided to not hold Camp Gottastitch 2020.
This pandemic has thrown everyone into a new normal. The uncertainties of the virus leave everyone with an inability to plan future events. We looked at a reasonable vision of what Camp would be – one with social distancing, masks, and in accordance with appropriate board of health regulations. An example would be that the hotel has changed their yummy buffet breakfast to a cafeteria style setting, with people spaced 6 feet apart. (Imagine 80 of us spaced 6 feet apart in their breakfast area – we would have to stagger breakfast times.) We could not do food – for example – we couldn’t even put out a bowl of chips, because no ‘communal’ food is allowed.
We felt we simply could not provide a Camp Gottastitch experience that would be in compliance with guidance from healthcare and public officials, our own high standards, and respect for the well-being of our community. Over the past several months, we have been actively seeking creative ways to allow Camp to move ahead. But Camp is about proximity. It is about being close and together, whether stitching together, eating together, shopping together, looking over stitchers’ shoulders to see current work in progress, playing games, laughing and sharing together. The potential spread of the virus keeps us from this reality. We want to thank you for your patience with us as we have sought to do the right thing both for campers and the long-term viability of Camp. We are incredibly sad and grieve this loss along with you. It is a decision like this that makes us aware of just how special Camp Gottastitch is for everyone involved.
We will keep you apprised of plans for Camp Gottastitch 2021. Those of you who received a confirmation letter for 2020 will be first notified for 2021.
We encourage you to take advantage of the virtual stitching opportunities throughout the year. We will also be providing creative ways to stitch together as we learn how to better manage the COVID-19 restrictions. Watch the Facebook pages for further information.
Thank you for your participation and your understanding.
